Cannot send mail from HTC Touch Pro, but can receive.

I have set up my AOL and Gmail email accounts on my HTC Touch Pro. I receive
messages just fine. However, I find that I cannot send any email messages
from either account. If I reply or send a new message, I get an error message
stating that I need to check my account settings.

I do so, and since they are automatically set when I select what email type
it is (i.e. when I select an AOL account, it automatically fills in all sorts
of stuff for me), there's nothing I can change.

I have POP3 enabled with my Gmail account but it still won't send any
messages.
I don't know what to do for AOL.

I have been told on a message board that there is some sort of program
available that I can run on my smartphone that will fix this, but no further
details were provided.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.....

There are two potential issues here that I can think of. Forst is a
WinMobile 6.1 bug that stops accounts from sending if any attempt to send
fails. The info and fix is here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=d9d71b2e-d2dd-44f2-86e5-1e53aad7fb7a&displaylang=en&tm

If that's not the problem, it's likely a mobile operator issue- some mobile
phone operators do not allow SMTP except through their own SMTP servers.
Generally these operators will provide you with the correct settings. It's
also possible that the operator blocks certain ports (on my T-Mobile USA WAP
data plan, port 587 is blocked, which is what AOL uses for SMTP by default,
so I have to use 25 instead.) Either of those operator issues is likely the
problem if the phone can send email fine over WiFi, but not via your mobile
operator.

If it won't send over WiFI either, probably the above issue is the problem,
or your settings are incorrect.

Good luck!

Thank you. I will give the patch a try and see if that fixes it!
