Using MS products is not necessary. I synch my contacts, calendar,
ActiveSync. I have an ATT Tilt running WM 6.1. It was not a painless
setup but certainly doable.

Post by SvenNot really...BUT... the Touch HD is a Windows Mobile device and as such
offers a number of syncing and management options. The bad news is that
these largely assume you will be using MS Outlook on your PC, and it is
a Windows PC. There are options for MAC users, but I'm not real familiar
with them. If you use a MAC, post back and someone is sure to help.
For the PC though, you will need either ActiveSync, for XP, or Windows
Mobile Device Center, for Vista. Both are available at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/default.mspx
Look in the updates box.
These allow you to sync most all of the information, contacts, calendar,
etc. you keep in Outlook.
For those that gripe about buying Outlook, OK, but you can pick up a
copy of 2007 for under $50
(http://www.provantage.com/microsoft-543-03865~7MCSK026.htm). I've
always found it a very useful product in it's own right, though I know
some disagree. Some time back there were third party programs that
allowed you to sync with PIMs other than Outlook, such as Palm Desktop,
or Lotus Notes, but those sync products cost $30-$100 themselves, were
not upgraded to work with the newer OSs, and are a bit hard to find even
if you have an older device. I agree that MS probably should have made
WM sync with Vista Calendar and Contacts, since those two products came
with Vista, but they didn't, and nobody appears to have stepped up to
fill that gap... So, the options are find a copy of Outlook, type all
the info directly into the device and get a good backup solution (like
MyPhone, for some things), or rely on some of the web based options,
someone is sure to bring up.
